hi doc, myself ad my wife is 13+weeks pregnant with tsh level 5.8,while she is on thyronorm 25mg for last 2 months.so my question is current thyronorm dose is sufficient for her,and how long she will have to take this medication.it will be great if you answer my query.thanks.
After going through your question, I can understand your concern.
Considering the fact that in first half of pregnancyTSH level should be below 2.5, there is a need to increase her dose of Tab Thyronorm after consulting your endocrinologist. (I would have increased it to 50mcg.)
Though value of 5.8 may be below normal according to laboratory report, but in pregnancy due effect of pregnancy hormone (HCG) the acceptable value for TSH is below 2.5 in first half and below 3 in other half of pregnancy.
Also Thyroid supplement may have to be continued for a long time. After delivery and period of lactation dose need to be adjusted according to T4 & TSH level.
Hope this helps you, if so do vote as helpful.
