How Long Should I Continue With Dressing Change For Chest Tube Removal?
Hi. One of our individuals was discharged back to the group home setting this eveing without wound care orders. She had a chest tube removed four days ago and currently has an occlusive dressing with foam tape to the site. How long should I continue with dressing changes?
Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM. I can understand your situation and problem. The wound of chest tube removal should be managed properly,as it has having direct connection with chest cavity and lungs. So chances of infection are high if wound care is not proper. Daily dressing with sterile precautions should be done. Use betadine ointment for dressing. Dressing should be continue till healing occur. For healing it will take almost 7-10 days. So for the initial 10 days, better to do daily dressing. And once healing occur ,no need for further dressing.
