How Long Should One Take Cipralex 5mg For Insomnia?

Hi, I have been taking Cipralex 10mg daily for Insomnia for about 8 months. After about 6 weeks of treatment, the insomnia is gone. In the last 4 months my Dr. has reduced the dose to 5 mg daily. Now my Dr. is tapering the 5mg dose to 4 days a week. I'm having a slight disturbance in my sleep. Is it true that I need to keep taking the 5mg dose always without interruption?

Hello
Welcome to HCM.
Cipralex is primarily an antidepressant. It is given to treat depression and anxiety.
If your sleep has improved with this medicine, this suggests that you had some anxiety which was causing your difficulty in sleeping because cipralex is not sedating.
If you having problem with reduced dose of cipralex, i think you should continue with the same 5mg daily.
The time duration for which this drug should be taken depends on the resppnse of symptoms.
I think you should talk to your doctor about this.
Thanks.
