How Long Should Vicodin Be Taken For Back Fusion And Surgery

Hi, I m 31 years old and the healthiest person I know. I workout 5 days a week and have never had any family history of bad things that I would have to check off on a life insurance test. I have had a back fusion along with an other back surgery. Long story short, I take Vicodin about one 750mg a day. Some days I dont take any. I average a 90 count bottle to last around 4 months. It really helps me get through the day. I wanted to know if this will give me problems with my liver in time. I just went to get life insurance and I was in the range for Super Preferred on everything except my ALT(SGPT) which was 67.00. My AST(SGOT) was 34.00 which was fine. So should I cut back the vicodin and take the back pain or is 67.00 something to not really worry about.

Hello,

Since when you are taking this medicine? The content vicodin has is metabolized through liver and I assume that you are consulting your doctor while consuming this. Over long period of time, it can cause issues with levels of SGOT, SGPT which are indicators of liver function.

If you are taking the medicine as per your doctor's advice then make sure you take it for the specific dosage and duration as per the prescription. I also suggest you to consult your doctor on further intake of this. He might change the medicine for you if the pain is severe or he might alter the dosage. If needed he might prescribe another medication for the raised SGPT levels (67) which is not severe, its a slight increase which can be brought back to normal with appropriate management.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
