How Long The Blood Sugar Levels Takes To Normalize With Proper Diet And Exercise?

My blood sugar levels are from 230 -261. They were 600 without taking metformin(I take metformin two tables twice a day). My doctor also wanted to put me on victoza but I read this drug may cause thyroid and or cancer of the pancreas, so I am not taking the victoza. I am hoping my blood sugar levels will go down through diet and exercise as I lose weight. I am also taking losartan and my doctor wants me to take lipitor as well but I don t like the side effects of lipitor so I am hoping as I lose weight and eat properly everything will balance out natrually. My question is, how long should I give myself for my blood sugar levels to normalize before I seek other options? I am giving myself a month to see if the blood sugar levels go down. Is it safe to wait a month? I have to tell you that the metformin upsets my stomach so much and gives me indigestion so I am not that hungry anymore. Any suggestions? I see my doc after a month again. This was my decision as I don t want to take the victoza or the lipitor.

Diabetologist 's  Response
Dear sir i can understand your concern.
I am sorry to hear you have been having difficulties getting your blood sugar in the normal range now. I am very happy you are this conscientious because having a well controlled blood sugar is very important in preventing the onset of diabetic complications.
i am very happy about your positive attitude towards diet and exercises to control diabetes.
your sugar levels dropped down from 600 to 260 with metformin its a good sign.
metformin is a very good drug but having slight side effects like gastritis which is going to settle in few days.
check your sugars both fasting and 2 hrs after taking breakfast again after a month.
if your life style changes are not giving response then consider taking other medications.
There are many other medications available like DPP-4 inhibitors which are safer than victoza consider taking advise regarding this medication.
