Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Long Will It Take For Hot Flashes And Weight Gain To Stop After Completing Femara Followed By Double Mastectomy And Chemo?
I completed five years of Femara following double mastectomy and chemo. The hot flashes have been unbearable. I was given the go ahead to stop taking Femara five days ago and can hardly wait for the hot flashes to stop and weight gain to begin to disappear. How long will this take? I am able to ask my pharmacist with no charge since I live in Canada. For that reason, I will pass on your response. I was unaware this is a pay for info site. My apologies.
Femara (letrozole) caused hot flashes as one of its common side effects. From my experience, I don't see it to last beyond 2 weeks after stopping the drug. If it persists beyond 4 weeks, evaluation for other causes should be considered. You may be treated for hot flashes if it is severe. Several hormonal and non-hormonal therapies are available. I hope the above information helps you. Thanks for writing into healthcaremagic. Take care.
