How Long Will The Effect Of Meth Be There?
I am a daily meth user. I have a surgery scheduled in 6 weeks. How long before surgery do I need to stop to be safe? A simple answer is all I'm looking for so please refrain from judgemental lectures as they will fall on deaf ears. I self medicate for my own reasons and have for 20 years. I have no intention of stopping now. If you are genuinely concerned, I thank you but if you just want to look down your nose and rattle off what you think of me because society has lumped all meth users into one catagory........well, your opinion of me means very little!

The traditional thought was that, at least from an anesthesia standpoint, that people should wait 2 weeks before having surgery after stopping meth or cocaine. That is being revised, and now it is felt that as long as you are not actively high, basic surgery is safe.
That being said, if they test you and you have a positive toxicology screen on the morning of surgery, your surgery will likely be cancelled.
