How soon are HIV and STD tests reliable? I got tested for the following 15 days after exposure to a person of unknown status: Chlamydia and Gonorrhea testing (NAAT, urine and throat) Syphilis testing: RPR and FTA Oraquick Rapid HIV 1/2 All tests came back negative today (now 24 days after exposure) but I'm wondering if and when I need to go back.
By this time your tests for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea are reliable. RPR and FTA will be more conclusive after 6 weeks. Whereas Oraquick will be more conclusive after 12 weeks. There are special tests available for HIV to get a conclusive reports after 3-4 weeks also, may be at higher price. It is better for you to repeat the tests once again after 3 months for HIV and Syphilis. Dr S.Murugan
