How Safe Is Plavix While On A Heart Monitor?

While wearing a heart monitor, I had a fibulation. The doctor put me on Pradaxa. I ve had friends tell me they have heard bad things about this medication, and they fell Plavix is a better choice. Are they used for the same purpose? Is one better than the other?

Pradaxa is dabigatran, an anticoagulant medication given to prevent clots in the vascular system.

Due to fibrillation (irregular heart rhythm), blood clots are formed which can cause an increased risk of stroke.

This medication helps in dissolving the clots. However, since they are blood thinners they increase the risk of bleeding. Thus, always follow up with your doctor regularly.

However Plavix is Clopidogrel is also an anticoagulant that is used to prevent heart attacks and strokes in persons, but it is given to people who have had recent heart attacks.

Your doctor has put you on the right medication for fibrillation so kindly do not worry.
