How Safe Is Knee Replacement Surgery With The Condition Of BP And Diabetes?
My mother is suffering from knee pain for the past 1 1/2 yr. She has got both BP and Diabetes. Doctors are advicing her to go for knee replacement surgery. She is 60 yrs old. We have a fear whether she will recover from this pain after the surgery? as many people say that knee replacement is not successful for all the patients. (2) How much time it will take for her to walk after the surgery i.e for recovery(3) What will be the cost involved for single knee and both knees(4) If only one knee surgery is done, after how many days we have to go for knee replacement in second leg(5) If the surgery fails, she will be a totally handicapped and any correction can be done because we dont want her to become bed ridden for ever (6) Do the hopitals charge extra for corrections again or it is a guaranteed surgery?
Most persons are able to walk short distances with assistance (cane or walker) within a few days. Exercises are started by physiotherapist to increase walking distance and muscle strength.
If her current pain is severe and movement limited, the knee replacement would significantly help to improve this, it would not cause her to become handicapped.
In terms of cost, this would vary between doctors. It would be best to obtain the costs from the orthopedic surgeon involved.
I hope this helps
