How Safe Is Taking Amitriptyline While Being A Type 2 Diabetic?

I just found out I have type 2 Diebetes. I also have two feet that I feel is Naropathy. They are sore, numb toes etc, etc. All that has been given to me is Metformin 500mgs - Twice a day & Glimepirde 2mg - Once a day. They also have given me Amitriptyline for sleep & swelling 1 or 2 pills at nightime. It seems to work but it is putting weight on me. (I like the Amitriptyline as when the swelling goes down my feet don t hurt as much) I ve no job as I m always in pain. Thanks for your help, Craig

Hello,
Amitryptaline is used in treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathic pains although there are other better medicines like GABAPANTINE or PREGABLIN which are supposed to be better than amitryptaline.
Some weight gain is expected with use of amitryptaline but a proper dietary control and regular aerobic exercises shall be able to tackle this problem.
Thanks
