How Serious Is Klebsiella Oxytoca Infection In An Infant?

My granddaughter has an infection with Kelbsiella oxytoca that was found after a urine culture test. She is on antibiotics being treated. Her parents are incredibly concerned that it has a 20% mortality rate because it can be resistant to antibiotics. How serious is this bacteria. She is 6 months old and currently was showing not symptoms. Her urine test was negative, but the culture came back positive for it. That is why she was put on antibiotics.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Klebsiella oxytoca can be difficult to treat and does have a high mortality rate as you mentioned, in one study 21% rate for 14 days.

Some persons do well and respond to the medication so it is possible that your grand daughter would respond to her treatment especially if she is currently asymptomatic.

I hope this helps
