you must see your late night sugars 2am 3am depending on your dinner time to see whether high fasting is due to low late night sugars(compensatory) or high late night sugars(hepatic cause). it can be taken care of by increasing or decreasing the dosage of metformin as the case is. it is generally due to insulin resistance cued by metformin or basal insulins

Thanks for contacting HCM
You are concerned about elevated fasting blood sugars. Your other blood sugars look well controlled. In my practice I would recommend increasing your metformin to twice a day to get better overall control. I recommend that you seek you doctor before changing your medication. I would say your blood sugars are in overall good control but could be better.

Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Panagiotis Zografakis's  Response
Hello,
I'm afraid the information you've provided is not enough to make a full assessment of your diabetes. You morning fasting blood glucose level is high. The target for blood glucose ranges between 80 and 120 mg/dL. The blood glucose levels may fluctuate from day to day and they certainly do fluctuate from morning to evening.
Glycosylated hemoglobin A1c is an important measure of blood glucose regulation. A level of 7% or lower is the target of diabetes treatment.
If you have more than 7% then you need to either increase the dose or add a second drug.
Walking every day is essential. Keeping your body weight within normal range is also very important.
These are some general thoughts on your condition.
If you'd like a more specific answer then please provide more information including your glycosylated hemoglobin A1c.
Kind Regards!
