Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had severe knee trauma to my right knee 14 years ago. For the last week my left knee feels like pressure is building from the inside. The pain is like a knife being shoved slowly into the bone. I have had no injury ever to this knee. It does not matter ice, heat, elevating the knee, wearing a brace. I can not get relief. Aspirin or ibuprofen does take the edge off for a couple hours. However it is not predictable if it will help or not. Is there anything else I can do to get relief
It becomes important for us to know, what is causing you so much pain rather finding answers for relief to give you a permanent cure. First, you better get an x-ray done to know what has happened in the knee joint. If it is arthritic or goutic then we treat it with anti-inflammatory medicines which will eventually subside your knee pain also and will be a permanent solution. If you stick on to treat pain then a better idea for you would be to go to a pain clinic. There they treat all chronic pain including cancerous. They give fentanyl patches, morphine, pethidine, tramadol, meperidine, etcetera. All these opioids medications give the best relief for pain.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Archana
