i am facing a peculiar problem that i am off alcohol for almost 45 to 60 days without any issues and then i start binge drinking for 6 to 7 days..this is becoming repetitive and has been the pattern for last 3 to 4 years. i wish to quit ...is this a psychiatric disorder? can you help?
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. You are having alcohol abuse habit. You should consult a psychiatrist or suitable physician for treatment as follows:
- behavioural counselling
- disulfiram drug used that block alcohol metabolism and so if you drink alcohol unpleasant symptoms occur and hence desire for drinking decreases
- to decrease craving for alcohol another drug used is naltrexone
- Be firm to stop alcohol drinking and during alcohol withdrawal symptoms alprazolam like drug prescribed to improve withdrawal symptoms.
