How To Confirm Presence Of Meneires Disease?

I have been having fullness and ringing in my right ear for the last several months, and I have had vertigo on and off for the last 12 yrs. I went to the ENT and he said that it could be Meneires Disease but since I had no hearing loss he wanted to run an ENG. I had that done and should problems in my right ear but should a little below normal in my left ear. He now wants to run a MRI to make nothing else is going on. He said he was going to treat it as Meneires but it bothered him that I have no hearing loss and the little below avg in my left ear (which I have no balance issues whats so ever). I am 37 yes old.

Hello,

As per your history that is fullness and ringing in ears along with vertigo on and off, as a physician, I think it would be BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo). To confirm it we have to do Epley's manure.

Sometimes vertigo is may be due to neurological problems. So, I will advise to do MRI brain and neck and follow here or consult with physician.

As you said in meniere's disease, hearing loss is present. So, I will suggest you to consult with ENT surgeon for proper examination for BPPV. For that, you can take Tablet Vertin 16 mg after consultation. To confirm Meniere’s disease, we have to do hearing test and proper history.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale
