Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My name is Stephanie and I am growing concerned about my daughter Abigail. She will be two in October and her natural curiosity for tasting things that really aren't meant to eat is slowly spirialing out of control. You see, she likes to eat things that normal people wouldn't dream of eating such as baby powder and baby wipes. She even goes to the point of sqeezing the diaper rash cream or pink salve and licking her finger and the top of the tube. Is this anything to be truely concerned about or do you think that see needs seen for a psychological problem?
Abigail is around 18 months old and this is an age when children love to explore and much of it with their mouth! Many children tend to lick and taste everything just for the fun of it. If your child's development and behaviour is otherwise normal, this tendency is not apsychologicval problem. But you must be vigilant and divert her whenever she attempts to put an inedible object in her mouth. Diverting her attention to something more interesting is better than just saying no. She will gradually outgrow the problem.
