How To Cure Cough And Congestion Even After Having Antibiotics?
I've been sick with a cough and congestion now for over two weeks, I've taken a regimen of antibiotics(azithromiacin) what else can I do? Still feel terrible achy around the area my lungs are. This happens to me every year everybody else gets a cold I get something much worse!
Dear patient. Greetings from health care magic!!! I am Dr Thakker and shall be answering your question.
I can completely understand your concerns about the respiratory infection which doesn't seem to go away. I will try my best to guide you out through this.
You have an upper respiratory tract infection. this can be caused by viruses/ bacteria/ fungi. In your case you have taken azithromycin for x number of days. However the antimicrobial coverage of this antibiotic is good for only atypical organisms. This may have resulted in incomplete clearing of the infection and persistent symptoms. Also the duration of antibiotics is important, so is avoidance of smoking.
I would suggest you the following as a next step:
Chest xray, CBC, sputum examination. I woud recommend you to take a higher antibiotic like Levofloxacin for 5 days and see if this clears off your infection
I hope this helps you out. If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to write back to me.
Yours sincerely, Dr Thakker.
