Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 43 year old active female. I just noticed swollen lower abdominal really in my pelvic area. Just happened almost over night. Sore to touch and very jiggly . I ve intensified a workout recently with inclined sit ups, so I m wondering if I ve pulled or damaged something or is it possible for me to have a hernia. I do have IBS with constipation, yet I ve never had anything like this happen before
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history of you being 43 years old active female - just noticed swollen abdominal area - in pelvic region, sore to touch and very giggly; had intensified the exercises hence wondering whether this is hernia or a pulled muscle. Also noted that you have IBS with constipation, happened for the first time. The most probable reason is either of the things you mentioned. Please do simple tests: Palpate over the swollen area, if there is impulse or increase in bulge on forceful coughing, this is hernia, if not then it can be anything else. Consult a General Surgeon. MRI of the area to get an early and correct diagnosis as it needs proper treatment asap. Till then stop exercises. Get control over IBS-C
