42 year old male with varices due to alcohol. still drinking intermittently. bled 2 months ago and required urgent OGD, no action. recent smaller bleed noted by melaena after a binge. wants to fly from panama to peru to rehab centre. Hb currently 7.3, BP 150 systolic, dizzy on exertion.
Hi. He should not be drinking. Rehab center would be a good idea. You have not mentioned how many esophageal varices and what stage are they in. I hope he is taking Tab Inderal or Propranolol. It decreases the chances of bleeding in varices. Take that if you are not taking it with consultation from your Doctor. Let me know if I can help further. You can also contact me directly by using ' Ask a Specialist ' section of the site. Take care. Dr Rishi, New Delhi, India.
