Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How To Cure Wheezing Caused After Open Heart Surgery?
My Dad, who is just shy of 90 recently had open heart surgery for aortic valve replacement and pacemaker insertion. Up until the surgery, he was in very good health. He has developed wheezing and I am worried. He was having nebulizer treatments but this has been discontinued. What should be the next step in getting the wheezing resolved?
Thanks for selecting this forum for asking your query.
I need some more information about your dad? 1) Was he wheezing before surgery or not? I mean is he asthamatic or not?
Secondly sometimes the Entrotracheal tube insertion during surgery can give you wheeze which generally resolves by use of Anitbiotics and other medications as u stated Inhalers. All he need is a Chest Xray (Posterior/Anterior view) just to exclude other caused of Wheeze. You can use inhalers but still depends on many other factors. Inhalers come in different medications.
So its better to send me Chest Xray picture or send me more Past Medical records. Or it will better to consult the near physician for it so that he can examine your father.
If still you have any query. Feel free to ask me.
Thanks. Regard, Dr. Majid Khan.
