How To Heal Perforated Ear With Bad Throat And Tonsillitis?

My son does get sore ears and tonsilitus all the time, he had puss coming out of his ear twice as a newborn baby, the sameear has just recently been perforated, which shocked me. He does have a 30 min swimming lesson every Monday but we haven t been for several weeks due to his ear, anyway he started antibiotics for the bad ear, the same night while he slept the ear bled, then I used cotton wool in his ear for 5 days to protect it. 12 days after seeing the doctor and getting the antibiotics the ear seemed better he was telling me his ear was better, so I took him to see if we could go swimming and if the hike had gone, the morning before seeing the doctor my son blew his nose and cried his eyes out in pain that his ear had popped and it really hurt him, still the doctor said its fine the ear is better, any probs come straight back, and now 2 days from then he blew his nose gently, them a little harder as the snot isn t coming out. And it popped again, tears and pain for him, apparantly perforated ears run on the family, I m worried it s something more than a normal ear infection, because his throat is bad too he always gets tonsilitus etc Any help would be appreciated

hello and welcome to health care magic,

You have not mentioned your present age of your son. In any case I would assume that he is less than 12 years which is the minimum age after which a surgery for ear perforation is suggested so till that age you do not have to worry about his ear perforation.

Presently all you need to do is take intensive medications to treat all infections in the nose and throat and ear and avoid swimming for the next two to three months or so. You must keep the ear dry and away from water as much as possible if you want it to heal spontaneously and if you want to avoid surgery.

In any case do not worry as ear infections may run in the family but perforations do not. If you treat the infection properly and make sure the ears remain clean and dry then you have nothing to worry about.

Finally i would like you to wait for a month or so for the ear to heal. if that does not happen then you must take an CT of the temporal bone as well as audiometry of the ear and get back to me or any ENT with the reports.

hope this helps
