How To Heal Shooting Pain On Right Side Of Upper Leg In A 74 Years Old Female?
Hi I have a client who is 74 years old, relatively good physical condition, plays tennis, cards every other day. She just came back from a beach vacation and mentioned that after a walk on the beach every time she steps up she has a shooting pain on the right side of her upper leg. To the point of she cannot walk to dinner and is in pain. I am a trainer and athlete so asked her to step up and engaged the glute muscle, she didn t complain when I put my finger on the joint and hamstring but rather when she put weight on the leg to step up? Is this a periformis issue or perhaps sciatica?
Hello. Thanks for writing to us. The shooting pain on the right side of the upper leg is likely to be a nerve related pain. This can happen due to a mild nerve root compression at the lumbar spine. MRI scan will help in diagnosis. I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you. Regards, Dr. Praveen Tayal , drtayal72@gmail.com
