hi i have just had the results of a liver function test and i am not sure what they mean, other than they are not normal and I'm worried. My serium a/c = 53 and alt= 74, billerubin = 8 Please could you explain them to me? Incidently, i have stopped drinking for 6 days now and intend to keep this up. How long should it take to get them back to a normal level. Many thanks
Hello and welcome to HCM, You have posted only partial liver function test report. The interpretation is as follows: The level of bilirubin is raised. The normal level is below 2 mg/dl. The level is very as compared to the normal 2 mg/dl. Raised bilirubin level suggests jaundice. The cause for jaundice has to be found out. The level of SGOT i.e. AST is slightly increased at 74 IU/L. The normal level is below 40 IU/L. However, nodefinitive opinion can be given based on just two values. In alcoholic liver disease, the level of SGOT is greatly increased.
Kindly, post other test report for more information.
