Hi i just had a mantoux test today and I have no papule on my hand...just The neEdle mark ....i look on the internet now and it says that If a papule does not appear the test should be repeted....but the nurse who injected the test said to come back in 48 hours to see if something appears...is the test available or not?! Thank you very much ....i appreciate if i get a answer...
The Mantoux test measures hypersensitivity to tuberculin. There is no correlation between the size of induration and likelihood of current active TB disease but the reaction size is correlated with the future risk of developing TB disease. The test has a poor positive predictive value for current active disease. There is no correlation between the size of post-vaccination Mantoux reactions and protection against TB disease and routine post-BCG Mantoux testing serves no purpose.
The results of this test must be interpreted carefully. The person's medical risk factors determine the size of induration the result is positive (5 mm, 10 mm, or 15 mm).
