Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had weight problems for many years. I have been able to loose the weight as low to 125 lbs and am now at 244 lbs., a weight I can not tolerate this weight. It does not help my depression. I have been clinically depressed for many years. I know how wonderful I feel when I have my weight under control. I am under very good care. I take a lot of medicine. Six years ago I lost 2 sons in nine months. The first call I got was got in the middle of the night. I was sure as the phone rang it had to be my son with Hodgkins disease. But it was not, It was my other son. He fell down his cellar stairs and died. Nine months later it was my other son. That is when my weight really went out of control. Depression meds. do not make it very easy with your weight. Then I was diagnosed with PMR could hardly walk. Was put on prednisone again a weight gain product. The Dr. is taking me off prednisone, which is a start in the right direction. I am going to monitor everything. I have done weight watchers and atkins. Atkins is easier for me. Weight watchers I went from 180 to 125. This is the biggist battle yet. Any help I can help ... I have extreme arthritis in knees so going to therapy. Ready and willing to try anything. Never been at this weight. Causes such stress. Should I be fasting? Thank you Donna Powles
Hi.. I can understand your problem. As per your description, it seems you have multiple problems inter related. First of all, m sorry for your sons. Its really very hard to come out of it. But the root cause of your problems lie somewhat here only. Try to come out of your depression first. Do some relaxation therapies like meditations, yoga and consult a psychiatrist for proper treatment if required. Secondly, as you have arthritis of knee joints and taking prednisolone, its obvious to have weight gain as a side effect of this drug. You can consult your physician for dose modification or some other drugs. There is no need to do fasting for weight reduction. You just have to do only- diet planning along with some physical activities. Plan your diet according to your daily requirement of nutrients, avoid junk food and extra calories. start some light physical activities/ exercise. Try to be happy, most important. Best wishes, Dr. shalinder
