How To Lower The Fever In A Child As Calpol Does Not Seem To Work Well?
Hi Dr. , My son is 15 months old and he is having fever 102 since 2 days. I was giving him calpol but it didn't bring down the fever. So i gave him MEFTAL-P this morning. my son had a urine test and it is normal and he not having cold. Please suggest how to proceed. PS: He is also having constipation problem.
Calpol (Paracetamol) is the safest medicine for kids. Dosage must be adequate. 15mg/kg/dose given every 6 hrs is the right dosage.
Along with Calpol you may give him tepid sponging with tap water.
In case you are giving him Meftal P, you may give it thrice a day. Give him plenty of fluids. If its a viral fever it might take 4 to 5 days to get okay. Just keep a note on his activity and urine frequency. If he is dull or lethargic/ irritable and cranky/ does not drink well/ urine output is less than 4 to 5 times in a day, then please do not hesitate to visit your Pediatrician.
For the constipation, include plenty of fluids (Water, juices, coconut water, soups) and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables in his diet.
Hope this answers your query. Wish your son a speedy recovery.
