How To Overcome The Addiction On Consumption Of Gutka And Alcohol?
hi. my uncle is addicted to having gutka everyday at least 10 15 packets per day and also he abuses alcohol everyday. he has tried to leave it but he says the withdrawls r so high that he cannot. also he does not want to go to a doctor because of the stigma atached to it.
Hi, Your uncle seems to be dependent on alcohol and gutka (tobacco). In that case, withdrawal symptoms are very common on quitting. It is advisable in such cases to start some medications to control the withdrawal symptoms. Generally long acting benzodiazepines are started and gradually tapered off. But it would be advisable to start that under supervision of a psychiatrist. He will also need thiamine supplements. For tobacco, nicotine gums can help. I can understand the unwillingness to go to a doctor. But, anywhere, it will be the duty of the psychiatrist to maintain confidentiality. Moreover, it will be prudent to start the treatment early so as to prevent any complications related to alcohol and tobacco. Hope you are able to convince him to visit a psychiatrist as soon as possible. Best wishes.
