We no longer "treat to target" which has many doctors, dietitians and others quite confused. I can say that your HDL is 48 and since that is the transporter of the
cholesterol out of the blood it seems only reasonable to want it closer to 60. Your triglycerides at 330 is a dramatic elevation and certainly requires a comprehensive nutritional care plan done in conjunction with your doctor.. Fish oil supplements being a source of
omega-3 fatty acids is good for your heart but taking a supplement will not get rid of this problem. To lower your triglycerides please try decreasing saturated and
trans fat in your diet and increasing fiber, particularly what is called water-soluble fiber along with plenty of water. Implementing a cardiovascular fitness program with guidance of doctor will help increase HDL and lower triglycerides as well. If you are
overweight, intensify efforts at lowering it to help lower triglycerides. Also, with my patients, I have some luck with them cutting out sugars, juices, and too much
carbohydrate that has been processed. I hope this helps. Kathy Shattler, MS,RDN
