How To Reduce Prolonged Headaches As Tylenol And Hydrocodone Not Helping?
My husband started taking nitro bid one month ago and has now increased his dose as scheduled. His headaches from the medication never fully resolved before the increase in dosage and are now back as bad as when he first started the medication. Tylenol didn't help and neither has the hydrocodone. Is there any help to reduce the headaches as the medication has done a great job in reducing his chest pain.
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. Nitroglycerin is having headache as major side effect. It causes cerebral vasodilation and this causes headache. Painkiller drugs are the mainstay of treatment for nitro induced headache. Since he is not improving with routine painkillers, he should take centrally acting painkiller like tramadol. Along with tramadol, he should drink plenty of fluids orally and keep himself hydrated. Application of warm water pad on head is also beneficial. It is observed that Nitroglycerin causes tolerance after 1-2 months of use. So headache will also subside after 2 months. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your husband. Thanks.
