Some extent of raised cholesterol with increasing age is common especialy when the diet is full of oily foods, and sedentary lifestyle. The cholesterol level in your case is not that much high that it needs lipid lowering drugs to be started on first instance unless there are special circumstances like ischemic heart disease, diabetes etc. In my opinin yo should try dietary and life style measures first, and you can easily bring back the cholesterol levels to normal below 200mg/dl atleast. It seems you are motivated to try these. Eat a portion of fresh fruits and vegetables every day in your diet plan, consume edible vegetable oil in cooking like sunflower or soyabean, avoid saturated animals fat, consume 2-3 teaspoonfull of ispaghula husk (fiber) every night before retiring to bed in a warn glass of milk with cream removed and do regular mild aerobic exercise 15 minutes daily 6 days a week like walking. I hope while following these simple measures routinely, after 4 weeks your cholesterol level repeated shall show improvement.
All the best.
