about 2 months ago i had some blood tests done and the results were that my cholesterol was high and he put me on lovastatin. one month later i had the blood work rechecked and this is the reading... cholesterol...164 triglycerides...274 hdl...30 ldl....79 how do i get my triglycerides lower. this is making me very nervous and i suffer from anxiety attacks and this is making them progress.
First of all well done on getting your cholesterol levels under normal limits.
Normal level of blood triglyceride is less than 150mg/dL and indeed your levels are elevated (274 mg/dl). Based on the limited information you have provided about your lifestyle I may not be able to specifically advise you. However, in similar cases, I have advised fenofibrate in addition to statins. Fibrates help increase the clearance of triglycerides from blood. It is very important that you reduce your intake of fried food and increase intake of vegetables and fruits, and foods rich in fiber. Importantly, daily physical exercise such brisk walking every day for 30minutes is a must.
In addition, all these will also help increase your HDL as well since it is low (30mg/dL). HDL levels need to be above 60 mg/dL. More the better since it is “good lipid”.
Repeat your blood lipid profile 4 to 6 weeks after you have performed these interventions.
Hope this helps.
