How To Reduce The Weight Gain Caused By Intake Of Carbimazole For Graves Disease?

Hi! I have been diagnosed with Graves Disease and have been prescribed Carbimazole. While on these for the last 6 - 8 weeks i have put on 6kgs...i would not normally care but as i am getting married in September and my wedding dress no longer fits it s become stressful. I have tried exercise alone and have had no results. Would a VLCD (such as shakes, fruit and vegetables, with high protein dinners... like chicken) help with weight loss? Thanks,

Dr. Hanif warmly Welcomes you!

Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully worked through your case, and I can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I assure you not to worry as I will take care all of your medical concerns.

For weight loss you need to decrease input, and increase output. Output is the exercises and physical activity you already told that you were doing. Do some aerobic exercises, join a gym and with the help of a trainer you will start losing easily. Very Low calorie diet you will definitely be getting in less, and comined with a proper gym you will start getting your goals in no time. You can't lose weight with exercise alone. Also the way you do the physical activity is very important. Gym trainers help you attain the results in days.

You may contact your doctor too, about the concerns you have and he may think of replacing the drug with another one, which has low adverse effects profile.

Very low calorie diet actually means that you are taking 800calories per day or less. Shakes have a little more. Proteins if taken more may exceed the calorie limits. I mean it should have to be very muc balanced.

Hope it helps. If you need further, detailed and quick assistance related to any health issues in future, feel free to 'ask me a question' directly from my profile.

Have a wonderful time ahead.

Best Regards!
