How To Reduce Tightness In Chest?

My 79 year old wife has annoying chest tightness that has occurred with weather changes. This has been happening ever since she had bacterial pneumonia when she was 30 years old. There is no fever. It occurs at rest and is not dependent on inspiration or expiration. Do you think this is due to changes in barometric pressure changes. Anything that one can do to relieve the discomfort?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

The symptoms seem to be related to barometric pressure changes.
During bad weather (low pressure) and at high altitudes the air pressure is lower, making it harder to breathe.
I suggest using OTC pain relievers which are effective at treating chest tightness.
I also recommend to do breathing exercises or yoga.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
