Hello, Welcome to HCM, It is habitual practices which you have adopted after taking some of the medicines given to you for the treatment of pain. The taste of the medicine has initiated this habitual behavior.
Once someone becomes used to clearing their throat, it can become more of a behavioural issue, the more you clear the throat, the more you will feel like they need to clear off.
Throat clearing may harm the throat and vocal chord, if you are frequently clearing the throat for more than three months, the condition becomes chronic and can gradually alter the voice.
I would suggest you to undergo behavioral therapy and try to prevent this habit, otherwise in long it has deleterious effect on your voice. Thank you.
