How To Switch From Verapamil To Metoprolol?

Hi. I m on Verapamil 240 ER once daily. However, I used to be on Metoprolol Tartrate 50 mgs twice daily and my blood pressure was lower on Metoprolol. I have plenty of Metoprolol. Can I safety switch back over? And if so, how do I do that? Thank you!

Hi,

Metoprolol and Verapamil both can be used for control of hypertension. You can use either of the drug however your doctor generally prescribes the one most suitable for you .If you want to switch there is no special precaution. you can stop Verapamil to start Metoprolol, however do not take both at the same time as they both slow heart rate and taking both at same time can be dangerous. However any change in drug must be done with consultation of your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
