No doctor will prescribe these drugs unless a definite diagnosis of mycobacterial infection is made. Was he tested for this? What has convinced you that your son has it? The exact cause of Crohn's disease is not known, but I have never heard that mycobacterium is associated with it. All drugs may cause side effects, some of which could be severe, so I would not recommend taking all the drugs you suggest without knowing for sure infection is present. It is not a good idea to discontinue a medicine that has worked for him without discussing it with his doctor. When a doctor prescribes a medicine, he or she weighs the advantages of the drug against the possible risks (such as cancer) before recommending it. His doctor is certainly aware of the cancer risk but feels the 6mp is more helpful for the Crohn's (which can also be dangerous) than the risk of developing cancer. Please discuss this with his current doctor before taking any action. Hope this helps. If you have more questions, I would be happy to answer them.
