Thanks for using Health Care Magic.

Read your query.

Pain and increased swelling after few days of extraction is due to the non healing of the socket . I would advice

* You will need a course of antibiotics which can include amoxicillin thrice daily for 5 days and tab metrolag along with ibuprofen for pain ( if you are not allergic to any medicines). Please visit dentist and get a prescription for this medicines .

* Use saline water gargling and avoid vigorous gargling .

*Do not use hot bag from the cheek surface ,use cold compress moist for the swelling.

*Evaluate the status with your dentist and if needed get the abscess drained and that will later induce the healing.

*Maintain a good oral hygiene.

Hope this was helpful.

Thanks and regards.

Hello thanks for consulting at hcm..

Post extraction of wisdom teeth, there will be inflammation and pain..Hence antibiotics and analgesics are very essential along with some surgeons give steroids shots also to reduce inflammation and post extraction swelling..

Keep oral hygiene good by gentle brushing and do salt water gargle saline..

Do not give hot /cold fomentation...
Please consult a oral surgeon for a check up and treatment..Since you will needing antibiotics and analgesics..
Hope it helps,,take care..

Thanks for your query, I have gone through your query. The swelling could be because of secondary infection or if any bone cutting was done during tooth removal. its better to take a course of antibiotics following extraction. You can start with a course of antibiotics like penicillin 550mg tid and metronidazole 4oomg bid, and an anti inflammatory drug like tablet enzoflam for 5 days and if the swelling and pain doesnot subside then consult the surgeon and get the extraction socket irrigated with saline and betadine. Also confirm whether whole tooth has been removed.
do not apply pressure over the swelling or lump, do not give hot fomentation over the lump. i hope my answer will help you, take care.
