How To Treat Accidental Injury Of Hernia During Repair?
Hi, Accidental injury to the contents of the hernia ( as called medically) can occur during the repair. Some hernias may be big with contents(like small or large bowel) pasted to each other making the operation difficult even for skilled surgeons. Unfortunately if it happens, direct primary suturing of the injured part can be done with ease. The patient needs to fast for longer time than usual. Usually there are no serious consequences. If the injured colon is very unhealthy, a protective colostomy ( bringing the colon to the surface) and using a colostomy bag temporarily till the injured part heals may be necessary. The colostomy can be closed after three months by a minor surgery. Dr G Srinivasan.
The treatment and surgery that may be best for your sports hernia repair is determined based on important factors including your age, past and present health, the extent and exact location of the hernia and your history with other medications and treatments. A sports hernia is a complete or partial tear to the oblique abdominal muscles and is one of the least understood sports injuries because it differs so much from traditional hernias
