Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been diagnosed with autoimmunate antibody negative cholangiopathy which I understand is a rare disease. I cannot find out much information. I think it is a problem affecting the bile ducts. I have been prescribed ursodeoxycholic acid. Is this similar to primary biliary sclerosis?
This is a diagnosis that is a combination of primary biliary sclerosis and autoimmune hepatitis. The treatment is exactly what you are taking, and if it becomes worse, steroids can be used. You're right, there isn't a lot of data on this disease, and it's variable as to how many patients end up ultimately need liver transplant. I'd recommend you try to avoid alcohol and fatty foods, and exercise as much as possible, and continue to follow up with the specialist who prescribed you ursodeoxcycholic acid.
I hope I have answered your questions. Please feel free to contact me should you have any further questions.
