Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had a slight, burnt like sensation on my tongue, as it goes into my throat for approximately 6 weeks. The burnt sensation does seem to move into my mouth on occasion, into the roof and further along my tongue. It is not really painful, just irritating. In addition, may be related, maybe not; my skin has started to become prickly when I first start exercising or when I start getting agitated or hot. This has not happen before, and started maybe 3 or 4 months ago.
Your symptoms are typical of burning mouth syndrome.. It is an oral condition where there is continuous or intermittent burning sensation inside mouth along with a scalded or numb sensation.. It can occur due to a number of causes like dry mouth, acid reflux, iron and/or vitamin B12 deficiency, stress, side effects of medicines if you take any etc. First of all consult an Oral Physician and get examined. He can rule out the underlying cause. As the underlying cause will be managed the symptoms will gradually improve. For now to relieve the symptoms you can start gargling with a numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine.. Numbing lozenges can also be taken. Take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen.. Avoid spicy foods and take a soft bland diet.. Suck ice pops..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
