How To Treat Chronic Recurring Hives?

I have chronic recurring hives that started about 3 years ago. I haven't had hives for the last year, but in the last month, they started again for the last three weeks. It seems to start as small numerous bumps along the back of my neck tht the welt up and spread into large red hives, burning feeling under skin. I treat it with calydryl, zyrtec and zantac.. I was also given prednisone , prescribed for a period of 5 days. But, rash returned again.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain recurring hives on the neck that with severe burning sensation that starts as small bumps and progresses into large welts seems to be most probably due to allergic reaction as it is resolving with anti allergy medicines and steroids..
As it is recurring condition, you to consult an Allergist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like allergic tests like Patch test, RAST test, food challenge test etc can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
The allergist can advise you to take similar allergy medicines and steroids as well as injectable steroids for relief..
Do cool compresses..
Application of calamine lotion can help in soothing the skin..
You can also be instilled an Immunotherapy that will help in reducing the severity and frequency of allergic attack..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
