How To Treat Cough,congestion And Strep Throat?

Hi I am 34 years old Female. I had cold and minor sore throat a month ago and I took some off the shelf medication for multi cold symptoms. I felt fine after that. Two weeks back the sore throat and cold came back and it s worse than before. I had severe congestion so I continued the multicolor symptoms medication, the throat ache lasted almost a week and half and the phlegm is greenish yellow. Last 3 days I threw up and had severe cough develop. I am unable to take antibiotics and am currently taking mucinex to control cough. Is this strep throat symptoms? What other alternates can be taken for the symptoms?

Dear thanks for the question.

I share your concerns, but you have to take antibiotics now. As greenish sputum indicates infection.i advise my patients to go for blood work up, sputum examination and chest x ray to come to diagnosis. However You can take antibiotics(amocacillin 500mg three times a day for three days, augumentin 625 mg three times a day for three days), decongestant and mucinex.Mucinex alone will not help. If this treatment doesn't help I advise my patients to go for sputum culture and sensitivity test for antibiotics.
