How To Treat Extreme Pain And Redness On Ankle Caused Due To A Wound?

Hi last week I got a deep scrape on the front of my ankle and it made a large wound.. I was advise to clean it with peroxide and antibiotic cream at first then antibiotic powder to help it dry. I was also advised not to cover it in order for it to dry. I was in a lot of pain so I went to the doctor and he prescribed "azithromycin", "silsulfazine" cream and bandages. The extreme redness and pain has then gone away. The wound is pink.in color as if I just fell. My question is why is it that every time I remove the bandage to clean the wound there is a yellowish jellylike covering over it mixed in with the cream. Is this bad? Is it still infected? Also when.is it safe to uncover the wound so skin can form?
