Sore throat is common after intubation. Apart from warm salt water, he can can use throat lozenges to help with the discomfort. It will go away after a couple of days. Run a humidifier in his room to add moisture to the air and prevent your throat from drying out. The extra moisture reduces inflammation and irritation, which naturally relieves his sore throat. Make sure to leave the humidifier on overnight.
