How To Treat Hiatal Hernia, Vomiting On Eating/ Drinking After Flu And Respiratory Problem In A 29 Yo Male?

My 29 year old son has bee very sick for a month. He got a flu and respiratory like illness at holiday time. Unfortunately it has turned to something else. He doesn t have stomach pain. However he can t eat or drink without vomiting. He has had an endoscopy and they found a hiatal hernia. However the dr. said this is common and couldn t be causing this. He has lost 32 lbs in the past 3 weeks. He is living on the bathroom floor. I don t know what to do for him.

Hello,

Weight loss of 32 pounds is not normal and must be evaluated as hiatus hernia will not cause such extent issue.

Additional workup with blood tests to rule out post bacterial or viral infection changes in the WBC series is requested here.

Primary care with antiemetic as ondansetron or ramosetron and PPI as omeprazole as else will help the best way.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
