How To Treat Hot Flashes And Sporadic Sweating?

I ve been having very uncomfortable I guess, hot flashes. Out of nowhere several times a day and night I sweat profusely, dripping with sweat for about a minute or two. I ve been regulating my diet incredibly but I m still receiving these weird sweats. Sometimes it s so intense that after all the sweat my body freezes uncomfortably. My sleep is interrupted approximately every 2 hours. I ve been taking over the counter estroven and remafin but I m still getting the flashes. I also stopped drinking alcohol and my pain meds(Percocet) and I m still getting these flashes. It may not be as intense as before but still occurring daily and several times. I was starting to wonder if it could be some sort of infection. I can t see my gynecologist right away and I m losing my mind. I m even starving myself at night time to try to sleep well. Also I m eating tons of sauerkraut and regular cabbage which I hope is helping but I m not enjoying. Is there something I can do temporarily before my doctors appointment since I m becoming scared.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor services.
I have read your query and here is my advise.

* As per my clinical knowledge, the issue seems to be associated with
sympathetic pathway induced perspiration most likely from
underlying stress and anxiety.

* Till you meet your doctor,
Relaxation techniques, deep breathing exercises will soothe the issue
with sweating as well as sleep disturbances.

Wish you great health.
Take care.
