How To Treat Intense Right Sided Shoulder Pain?

Hello, I am experiencing tremendous pain on the top of my right shoulder. No visible bruises, no trauma and to my knowledge have not strained my arm. I can hardly brush/wash my hair and it s very difficult to reach. It is super tender to the touch with no redness or fever. At bed time it hurts so bad (quite similar to a Charlie horse) I can hardly get to sleep. Approx 2 months now. Dr. attributes it to a strain. Any thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

According to your description, I am of the opinion that it may be due to sensory peripheral neuropathy or may be a part of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. Sometimes nerve compression or ischemia causes this.

Get your x-ray/CT scan done for the affected area. Get NCv and EMG studies done.

Anticholinergic medications along with steroid and painkillers local and systemic should be prescribed. Please follow up with me along with your reports.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ashish Ranjan, General & Family Physician
