Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Lipitor gave me SEVERE leg cramps, so my doctor prescribed Crestor. He gave me several weeks of samples, but my Health Insurance does not cover this medication, and the pharmacy tells me it will costs $500 for a 90 day supply. since I can t afford this, is there anything else I can try?
Statins can cause myopathy which can present as muscle weakness, muscle pain or nocturnal cramping. Rosuvastatin may have lesser incidence of myopathy than Atorvastatin which is why you have been given rosuvastatin.
Kindly continue the drug and monitor your serum electrolytes ,creatine kinase and urine reports. You should also change your dietary habits, exercise regularly which can help in reducing statin dose in the future.
Bile acid binding resins may be used if there no contraindications for the drug. This should be done only after consulting with your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
