How To Treat Pain And Bruise On Fingers Caused Due To Injury?

My 6yr old had his hand trodden on by a 9yr old wearing metal football studs across the metacarpal and middle finger joint the bruising and swelling was instant, took him to minor injuries unit no x-ray strapped his two fingers together. He could make a fist but painful to do so we have continued to ice it but it has worsened should it be x-rayed to be safe?

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

It seems that the bruise and the swelling is due to blunt hit by that metal football stud.

Here, you can continue with ice application to reduce swelling but to be on a safer or to rule out chances of minor fracture, he must go for x-ray of that hand.

In case on fracture seen, then you can also give him syrup ibugesic 2 tsf two times a day for symptommatic relief.

Also, apply glycerine or thrombophob ointment which are available over the counter over the swelling to reduce it quickly.

Consult your local doctor or ortho surgeon for further advice.

Regards,
